I love music. Pretty much all of it. I got the music bug pretty early.
I started piano lessons when I was six-years-old. I started studying jazz music in the seventh grade with Bay Area pianist Si Perkoff, and continued studying with him through high school. I played piano for anything and everything while I was growing up - high school show choir, jazz choir, concert choir, and jazz band. I played solo piano at Nordstroms. I started a quartet and played weddings and parties.
I graduated from Westmont College with a degree in music education. While in Santa Barbara I studied with notable jazz pianist Theo Saunders. And then I headed to New York City to make my way as a musician.
I taught piano lessons in NYC in music studios, at my students’ homes and at my home for close to 10 years.
I performed throughout the city in jazz settings but soon realized I really enjoyed playing a wide variety of music. I played for singer songwriters, played in rock and roll bands and performed with improvisational groups. I played in world music groups and a musical featuring the music of Joni Mitchell.
I’ve toured and performed throughout the U.S, in Canada, France, and Germany with my band Nous Non Plus. Our first record (of four) made the top 10 on the College Radio charts for 4 weeks.
I contributed to the soundtrack of the acclaimed motion picture “Super Size Me.” I recorded music for snowboard movies. I played keyboards for a short lived MTV show.
I produced and recorded electronic ambient music and competed in a laptop music event.
Recently, music I recorded with Nous Non Plus was featured in the movie ”Sister of the Groom.” Our music has appeared in a commercial for HP, a Slovenian cell phone commercial and in TV shows including Gossip Girl, Girls, and Emily In Paris, among many others.
The list could go on. It’s been such an interesting musical life for me!
When I moved to Flagstaff, I slowly transitioned to working as a photographer. But the desire to help kids and adults discover a love for music and incorporate that love for music into their life is strong. Because music is fun!
